Identity Workshops for High School Girls

Are you an Asian American girl in high school who has been told that 'All Asians are good at math'? How about 'Asians are quiet and submissive'? If you have faced these and other misleading characterizations, you are not alone. Other Asian American girls and mature Asian American professional women alike are frequently subject to similar stereotypes that prompt us to confront ourselves and understand who we really are.

So come share your experiences and listen to others' experiences in an intimate study group on Asian American identity presented by ASPIRE and Asian American X co-editor Arar Han. In this four-part series, we will use the autobiographical stories found in the book Asian American X to delve into our experiences as bi- or multi-cultural Americans. We will try to make sense of our collective and individual identities

  1. in school
  2. at home with our parents and families
  3. in friendships and relationships
  4. in thinking about college and careers

Are you or do you know of a high school-aged Asian American girl who would like to learn more? If so, please contact info@girlsaspire.org for more information or to sign up.
