"The reason I continue to participate in ASPIRE events
is because I believe in supporting young Asian American women
in their development. As a Lao American educator, I have been
blessed with many mentors throughout my life who understood
that despite my refugee, low-income background that I had
the potential to do whatever I wanted. I feel that as an organization
ASPIRE acts like a mentor. It provides opportunities for Asian
American women to share our experiences and wisdom. Participants
of ASPIRE walk away with a collective sense that as part of
a larger Asian American community, we care about each other
and are willing to help whenever we can. That is inspiring."
- Phitsamay Sychitkokhong Uy, Harvard
Graduate School of Education
"In the last year, I've learned so much through
ASPIRE. Not only did I learn from the amazing YLP workshops,
but also from those I met and talked to. Each woman I conversed
with had vision for the future and they were not afraid to
share it. Hearing the success stories of the keynote speakers
at the 2006 AAWIL Conference has encouraged me to reach higher.
I am determined to come back in the future and share my tales
with young college and high school students. I am very fortunate
to have come across an organization like this. The innumerable
skills I obtained through the Youth Leadership Program will
help me along my road to success."
- Annie Wu (YLP Scholar), Boston Latin
Academy
"ASPIRE is such a great organization. It is encouraging
to see in the short period it is established, many people
come together to share the vision of helping others. As a
speaker, I also had the opportunity to meet great young talents
and being encouraged by them. I am proud to work with ASPIRE
and its leadership."
- Joy Wooden, Wal-Mart Director of Diversity
Relations
"I
enjoyed participating in ASPIRE's conference as the young
women are so accomplished and dynamic. I could already pick
out many future leaders in attendance through both their enthusiasm
and their contributions to the content of programs."
- Diane Danielson, CEO of DowntownWomensClub.com
"The ASPIRE conference was a terrific way for Asian American
women to support each other, to share experiences and to communicate
to young women, you are not alone!"
- Judy Tso, President of Aha Solutions
Unlimited
"I appreciate the range of experiences and backgrounds
in this generous, inspiring community. There are experienced
women who are at the top of their fields; ambitious, hopeful
youth; and everyone in-between, who are invested in each other's
success."
- Grace Talusan, Creative Writing Professor
at Tufts University
"ASPIRE is not just an organization for me. It is my
family. ASPIRE is where we are a group Asian women leaders,
calling ourselves 'sisters', sharing our stories, caring for
one another, nourishing leaderships, and making a stronger
community for Asian women and girls."
- Thu-Hang Tran, Student at Boston University
and ASPIRE Director
"My experience at ASPIRE has been very enriching in a
360 degree fashion. I have spoken at both conferences; as
keynote for the 2004 event and on a panel for the event in
2006. On both occasions, I was ener gized
and inspired by the drive and ambition of the attendees; even
becoming a mentor for many of them for the months following
each event. This past event, I found myself even networking
with some of the other incredible speakers and will look forward
to future encounters with them. ASPIRE's mission in bringing
together Asian American Women will have a lifelong positive
impact on everyone who is involved. I feel very fortunate
to be one of those women."
- Beverly Stern, Consultant
"ASPIRE provides college women and high school girls
opportunities to interact with young professional women who
share their racial/ethnic and, often, immigrant backgrounds.
I wish there had been an ASPIRE that was active in my high
school in California. Being the child of immigrants who came
to the U.S. as adults, I found that when I graduated from
college, I didn't have a ready-made network of my parents'
contacts to help me find a job. Moreover, my parents' experiences
of finding a career path were very different from mine. Having
access to the experiences and advice of young professional
Asian American women like those in ASPIRE would have given
me a way to imagine what I, too, could aspire to."
- Arar Han, Special Assistant to the
CEO at Panera Bread
"As a panelist in the 2006 ASPIRE Women in Leadership
Conference, I enjoyed not only being able to share my own
personal experiences, but learning from other featured speakers
and participants as well. Organizations focused on giving
young women career advice and helping them develop leadership
skills are hard to find. Those dedicated to serving Asian
American women are even rarer. ASPIRE does a phenomenal job
of doing both."
- Sandra Wu, Associate Editor of Cook's
Illustrated
"I feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity to meet
so many wonderful people at the 2006 ASPIRE and Asian American
Women in Leadership Conference. The high-school girls who
attended my presentation, 'Presenting Yourself as a Young
Leader' were engaged, ambitious and excited. No doubt, they
will become successful and confident young leaders.
The conference was professionally run and truly inspiring
for all. I hope to be invited back to speak next year. Bravo
for a job well done!"
- Gary Berman, Senior Coach at The Speech
Improvement Company
"As
a past speaker at several ASPIRE conferences, I can attest
that ASPIRE is a phenomenal organization that serves a useful
and important niche to the young Asian American women in this
community. The programs are well thought out and wonderfully
executed. I am constantly amazed at what the leaders and members
of ASPIRE do. They are an inspiration to all women who strive
for and aspire to success, professionally and personally.
The organization is aptly named."
- Connie Wong, Assistant Clerk and Trial
Magistrate at Suffolk Superior Criminal Court
