Overview

Strengthening Future Asian American Women Leaders

ASPIRE’s Mentorship Program strives to empower self-growth through meaningful relationships and to foster an interconnected community of Asian American women. Recent graduates or college students are matched with experienced working professionals in a mentee-mentor relationship. Utilizing both one-on-one interactions and community building events, the program aims to promote personal growth, professional development, and leadership skills. This mutually beneficial relationship provides a unique opportunity for both the mentor and mentee to connect through their experiences, learn from different perspectives, and engage in thoughtful dialogue.

Program
Details

ASPIRE’s Mentorship Program is a uniquely virtual experience that consists of three main components: one-on-one mentorship (twice a month), community building sessions (once a month), and development workshops (once a month). In addition, mentees and mentors attend an orientation session and end-of-program celebration.

  • Orientation: Prior to the start of the program, all mentors and mentees attend an introductory orientation that explains the purpose of mentorship, identifies mentorship goals, and provides resources to help build a healthy mentee-mentor relationship.

  • One-on-One Mentoring: Paired mentors and mentees will meet twice a month (outside of group mentorship sessions and development workshops) to support mentees in their personal and/or professional development. This is an opportunity for mentees and mentors to work towards the goals that the mentee has identified for themselves. Mentees will have the opportunity to ask questions, problem solve specific issues they are facing, and learn new views and tools from their mentor.

  • Community Building: Community-building events will take place twice per cohort. This is an opportunity for mentors and mentees to come together, engage in meaningful conversations, share their experiences, and build connections with one another in a safe and inclusive environment.

  • Development Workshop: The program will have several development workshops focused on personal, professional, or leadership growth. During the session, mentors and mentees will engage in small group discussions to dive deeper into the topic, including ways the workshop content can be applied in the context of each participant’s life.

  • End-of-Program Celebration and Reflection: Mentors and mentees will come together for a celebration to reflect on their experiences with the program, appreciate one another, and share their takeaways.

For Mentors

Why Become a Mentor?

  • Strengthen your leadership and coaching skills: This dynamic role allows you to practice active listening skills and provide feedback as you encourage and guide your mentee to achieve their goals. This is a great way to deepen your empathy for younger individuals and learn how to best support them.
  • Gain personal satisfaction: By contributing to someone else’s development and positively impacting their growth, many mentors have found program participation a personally satisfying experience.
  • Learn from a different perspective: A mentee’s perspective can challenge your existing views and encourage you to reflect and evaluate your current approaches.
  • Create meaningful connections: The trust and support you establish with your mentee and other program participants can be the beginning of valuable relationships, perhaps ones that even extend beyond the program duration.
