MIHIRI TILLAKARATNE

ASPIRE is proud to announce Mihiri Tillakaratne as the 2008 ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year. Mihiri is the Founder and Executive Director of Empower a Village, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving rural communities to Sri Lanka with a variety of social and health programs.

Who is the ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year*?

• A female high school or college student of Asian American descent
• She is a proven leader, with the initiative and determination to make a change in her community
• She is a role model for young Asian American women, and committed to ASPIRE’s mission of empowerment

Who can nominate the ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year?

We welcome any person, regardless of age or gender, to submit nominations for any Asian American girl or woman he or she thinks should be a candidate for this award.

Prizes (subject to change)

Grand Prize - ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year

• All costs associated with attending the 2009 ASPIRE Asian American Women In Leadership (AAWIL) Conference in Boston, MA for (including complimentary conference registration, round-trip airfare and one-night hotel stay in Boston, MA)
• A day with a mentor of the winner’s choice from ASPIRE’s network (relevant transportation and accommodation will be provided should traveling be required)
• A feature on ASPIRE’s website (www.girlsaspire.org)
• A 2009 ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year Award memorabilia plaque

1st runner up
