Who is the ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year?
  • A female high school or college student of Asian American descent.
  • A proven leader, with initiative and determination to make a change in her community.
  • A role model for young Asian American women, committed to ASPIRE’s mission of empowerment.

Who can apply for the ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year?
We welcome any Asian American girl or woman to submit an application for this award.

How will ASPIRE accept applications?
We will create an online submission form on the ASPIRE website that includes:

  • Applicant’s information
  • Reference’s information for two References
  • A short essay that answers the following prompts:
    • Describe what an “outstanding woman” means to you
    • Provide specific examples of how you exemplify the definition you have provided and how you have been an inspirational role model for other Asian American women
    • What challenges have you faced growing up as an Asian American girl? What have you done to overcome these challenges?
    • An area to upload personal photos of the Nominee

How will the Outstanding Woman of the Year be decided?
After all the applications have been received, the ASPIRE Award committee will narrow the nominees to 10 semi-finalists, then 5 finalists.
The final judges will then assign the Grand Prize Winner, 1st runner up, 2nd runner up, and 2 honorable mentions.

Final judging process:

  • Each judge will rank his/her choices from 1 (low) to 5 (high)
  • The winner will be decided by the nominee with the most points, 1st runner up by the next number of points, etc.
  • In the case of a tie, the winner will be decided by a vote among the judges

Who will be included on the final judging panel? (Subject to Change)

  • A representative from ASPIRE’s Board of Directors
  • An ASPIRE Youth Leadership Program (YLP) Scholar (www.girlsaspire.org/ylp)
  • A representative from the Award Sponsor

Prizes (Subject to Change)

  • ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year - Grand Prize
    • All costs associated with attending the ASPIRE conference in Boston, MA (i.e. round-trip airfare for one and one-night hotel stay in Boston)
    • A meeting with an ASPIRE approved Asian American Female Mentor of the Winner’s choice

  • 1st and 2nd Runners-Up
    A 2010 AAWIL Conference memorabilia item

  • All finalists (Grand Prize Winner, 1st and 2nd Runners Up, and 2 Honorable Mentions) will be awarded with
    • Complimentary registration for the 2010 AAWIL Conference
    • An invitation to participate in a feature on the ASPIRE website
