WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A LEADER?
High school can be difficult enough without worrying
about if you are a leader or not. In this panel, panelists
will demonstrate that being a leader or exercising
leadership isn’t necessarily all about being the captain
of a sports team or the president of a student club.
Leadership is more than just a title. This panel will
teach you how to build a solid foundation for present
and future leadership. Learn to identify your intrinsic
motivations and create a support network. Discover
how to inspire a leadership attitude in yourself,
among your peers, and ultimately, within your community. |

LEADING WITH A PURPOSE
In order to make a positive impact, leaders not only
understand how to best utilize their skills and talents,
but also are also aware of their responsibilities.
Panelists will discuss how having a clear understanding
of the purpose of leadership positions can maximize
your leadership potential in your college community. |

MEANINGFUL LEADERSHIP THROUGH MEDIA
Media is a powerful and influential presence in our
everyday lives. With the popularity of user generated
media such as Myspace and Youtube, we can all participate
in utilizing media to exercise leadership In this
panel we meet prominent Asian American women working
in various fields of media, including television,
journalism, and the Internet, to explore the ways
media can be an empowering tool for Asian American
women to lead our communities in meaningful ways.
We will also learn from the panelists how we can effectively
utilize media outlets to transform the way Asian women
are represented and viewed in American society. |

WORKING WITH OTHER LEADERSHIP TYPES
There is more than one kind of leadership, and each
type of leadership is necessary to build a successful
team. In order to become an effective leader, you
must be able to balance your and others’ unique leadership
styles when working together in a team. This interactive
workshop teaches four different types of leadership
styles – North, South, East, and West – and leads
participants through team exercises to identify each
person’s unique leadership style and work together
effectively. |

whether on student organizations, college campuses,
local communities, and even the nation. Learning from
the experiences of panelists in the first session,
this interactive workshop will help participants assess
their abilities to lead others, identify their purpose,
enhance their skills to achieve objectives and address
issues they care about, and learn strategies to motivate
and influence their peers. |
